How to Use Forums Properly To Increase Your Success
Becoming a member of a forum can be a powerful and profitable way to promote your website or blog however, care must be taken to not cross the line when promoting within forums because there are unwritten rules one must abide by in order not to get kicked out for blatantly spamming.
First things first, promoting your website or blog in other peoples’ forums is allowed in most forums as long as you dont spam every forum you are affiliated with. When done appropriately, it is subtle and tasetul in fact, the forum owners get an added benefit of a more active membership base.
Do not start a new forum thread by blatantly promoting your website or blog. Moderators will quickly suspend your account and if this happens a few times you will probably lose your membership.
Now that you know a little bit about what not to do, what can you do?
If your site is very closely related to the forum then you should be able to announce a new product or service within the forum. If in doubt, mention it first in an existing thread and see if anyone minds you opening a new thread related to your new product or service.
Look for people asking questions and in need of some help in reference to your site or your experience so you can provide some value for them.
Many forums allow you to use a signature, often called a sig file in which you can mention your site name. You could also mention your url as part of your forum nickname. If you post often enough you may gain notoriety and become seen as an “expert”, then it’s likely that people will want to read more about what you say and that’s when your signature file become more valuable.

Hi Mark,
Great advice! I’m interning for an online company and it is necessary to know when it is appropriate or not to comment about the website. It is a great way to promote and spread the word but there are definite boundaries everyone needs to be aware of.
