1) Scams:
There are certainly pitfalls in home based business. There are people promoting programs of little value just to take your money. Fortunately you can learn the art of avoiding common traps and create success. Continue to read up on building a home based business. You can find success by taking the advice of people who are successful. Get to know some of the people behind the products that you are being offered, that way you are able to make an informed decision. Once you trust the person, you can trust their advice, instead of falling for a slick sales pitch.
2) Lack of focus:
Another common pitfall is lack of focus in building a home based business. Many people start one thing after another without seeing it through to a profitable point. Invest time into choosing the right business. Success is much easier to create because you when you are involved with something that you feel confident in building.
3) Lack of manpower:
Once you have the business in place, you will have a lot to do to make it successful. The one thing we are all limited in is time. To be sure that you are using your time wisely consider getting help to build your home based business.

The sales website is the most crucial area in the informational products business. You could have the most interesting and informative book in the world but if your sales ‘copy’ is crap people won’t buy it and you won’t make any money. To start with you need only create three pages which are:
1… The sales page
2… The affiliate’s page
3… The ‘thank you’ page
The Sales Page:
The sales page is where you sell your book with a sales pitch using one or preferably a combination of words, videos, testimonials, audio – whatever suits your product.
It is imperative that you get the ‘copy’ right as if you screw it up it will cost you thousands of dollars in sales. Especially important is the ‘headline’, the one or two sentence ‘teaser’ at the top of the page.
How the ‘headline’ makes ALL the difference to your sales:
A friend of mine in the marketing business changed just 4 words in his headline and his sales jumped from $1000 a week to over $3000 a week INSTANTLY!
The reason is this…When you get a visitor to your website they’ll read the headline first and if it doesn’t captivate their attention IMMEDIATELY, they will close the page down and go elsewhere. It is the choice of words which is so important.

As I mentioned above, there are other important aspects to your sales page and having testimonials is one of them. These can be extremely powerful way to sell your product. If you don’t have any, get members of your family or friends to review your book and write some for you.
The Affiliates Page:
This is another extremely important area as affiliate sales will probably be how you make the bulk of your money. You must get this correct from day one! Provide affiliates with articles, text ads, graphics and other material to sell you product. If you don’t bother, they won’t bother.
The last affiliate website I set up was ‘software’ based and I scoured different websites looking for different products to promote. If I wasn’t provided with good marketing material and a graphic to use I just moved on.

The ‘Thank You’ Page:
After someone buys your book, they will be automatically redirected by clickbank, or whichever payment processor you use, to your ‘thank you’ page. You will give instructions on how to download your product, your email address in case of technical queries and a link out to another one of your websites, if you have one.
You can also use the ‘thank you’ page as a money making tool as I’ve already discussed.

Before entering into the home business market, a couple of questions need to be asked. The questions people most frequently ask or should ask prior to entering into the business of making money from home should be analyzed carefully.
Proper research is the best way to find a home based business for residual income. Go on discussion boards to see what people are looking for. See what the most popular searches are on any given subject by using keyword research software. Pay careful attention so you are aware of new trends and movements.
I may have found a niche but is it lucrative? You can tell if a market is profitable in a number of ways. First of all, if the terms related to the niche seem to be searched often and that there aren’t too many people competing for them on search engines like Google, then maybe you’ve found a good home business opportunities. This could be explained by the fact that the niche simply is not marketable. Niches where you have heavy search volumes and a lot of competition also exist. These are clearly profitable, but because of the high level of competition, your product or any marketing effort might fail if it’s not top notch and efficiently promoted.
Sometimes home business opportunities with no one competing in them are obscure but they can be found. But then again, it can be because there is really no market or the information can be found for free on the web. Testing is the only fool proof way to see if you’ve found a good home business.
How do I test my market right? Ask questions about a hypothetical product you might pitch or create on discussion boards. There isn’t really a “best” way to promote a home based businesses so the question ‘What is the best way to make money with my home business?’ is difficult to answer. Depending upon the niche and your budget and/or capabilities, a blog may be more profitable for some people. For other niches, they might consider launching a small report or a full on e-book or video series whereas for others, you might consider setting up a newsletter. You can use niche marketing to make money in so many ways that it’s really impossible to tell which one is the best.
It is very easy to have a home business idea when done right. If you do your research, test your products properly and use a variety of methods to promote them, you should be halfway through conquering the marketing of your home business opportunities in no time.
