Rachael Ray, the Grocery Store and Marketing Gimmicks

Rachael Ray on The Marketing Professional Blog     I always thought that Rachael Ray had some professional marketer in her, I mean after all look at all the extrordinairy thing she has done over the past couple of years.  If you don’t know who Rachael Ray is just turn on your cable or satelite t.v. to virtually any cooking channel, go to a bookstore’s cookbook section heck she even has a cookware set that my wife wants to buy.

As I mentioned Rachael must be a marketer at heart aside from being a talented chef and t.v. personality and here’s why; I saw a headline on yahoo.com as I was logging on to my laptop and it was discussing the ways that grocery stores get you to spend more money than you had planned.  This story came directly from Rachael Ray’s blog www.rachaelraymag.com

I instantly was interested and me being the marketing professional that I am went to check it out, here is what I found;

The entrance of the store is filled with impulse buy items much like online marketers give away free information products that people want or think they can not live without.

Specials, what store do you know of that doesn’t run specials?  Online marketers are no different in fact every sale is viewed as a special, it’s just called something else!

Private Labels, this one really made me chuckle; store brand items are priced cheaper than name brand items that have name or brand recognition, sometimes they are better and sometimes they are not, you must compare and do your own due diligence.  Online marketers use private lable content such as articles, reports, e-books etc as a way to entice would be entreprenuers to strike out on their own or short cut the content creation process.  Often time PLR products as they are called are marked down or given away as an enticement to buy something else.

The parallels are endless and I invite you to leave a comment on the similarities that you have noticed while shopping in brick and morter stores also?

Oh yeah, here is a link to Rachael’s article as well: http://shine.yahoo.com/event/financiallyfit/6-ways-supermarkets-trick-you-to-spend-more-money-974209/

Always to your success,
