Red Bull Stratos Campaign

When Red Bull teamed up with Felix Baumgartner to sponsor his nearly 23 mile jump from the middle of the earth’s stratosphere, people weren’t just amazed by the pure craziness of the stunt. Marketers around the world were amazed at the sheer brilliance of this strategy on Red Bull’s part.

The jump, which was live streamed on YouTube, drew in more than 8 million people to watch Baumgartner become the first person to break the sound barrier, and has since jumped past 33 million views.

In addition to the YouTube live stream, ABC News reported more than 40 TV stations and 130 digital outlets broadcast the jump. Within just 40 minutes of Baumgartner’s stunt, a Facebook picture of the jump, posted by Red Bull, received nearly 216,000 likes, 10,000 comments, and more than 29,000 shares. Additionally, the jump dominated half the worldwide trending topics on Twitter that night.

The company couldn’t have done a better job of conveying their brand message, “Red Bull gives you wings.” This campaign was brilliant, not only because it generated a buzz, but also because they found a way to make the buzz all about them.

Every time viewers watch and re-watch the video of the jump, the Red Bull logo is right there, covering Baumgartner head-to-toe. When he was interviewed about his experience afterwards, there’s no way to discuss it without mentioning the name Red Bull. Even when people discuss the stunt amongst themselves, they’re going to think about Red Bull.
Instead of being one of many companies to sponsor an event, where individual names and logos blend into the fine print, Red Bull went out on a limb and created their own. Pure brilliance.

Microsoft’s Outlook.com Campaign

Once the leading email provider in the world, Microsoft’s Hotmail lost its title long ago to Gmail, and they want it back. The company created a new email system, Outlook.com, and kicked off an aggressive new marketing campaign to convince users to switch over.

The campaign used a couple of different components to draw in the attention of users, including “Scroogled” attacks on Gmail and advertisements designed to promote the new features of Outlook.com. The negative “Scroogled,” campaign targeted Gmail for using customer’s email data to display relevant ads on their computer screen, playing to those customers with privacy concerns. Conversely, the Outlook.com push promoted new features of the site, including the capacity to send enormous files in one email, address books that automatically pull new contact information from followers on social media sites and update users’ address books, fewer ads, and more.

Microsoft has been praised for finding ways to make email television spots, a seemingly dull topic, light-hearted and fun. One ad, put to the beat of an upbeat song while showcasing the features of the site, deemed it more than simply an email service. Another demonstrates how their automatic sweep feature can save users time by deleting old emails for them.

While email is by no means a sexy topic, Microsoft did a great job of taking something rather boring and getting people excited about it.

AT&T’s Its Not Complicated Campaign

AT&T knows that people are always suckers for adorable kids, so they made their enormously successful marketing campaign play to that. In the ads, moderator Beck Bennett sits with a group of young children and asks them simple questions such as, “What’s better, bigger or smaller?” and “What’s better, doing two things at once, or just the one?” The improvised answers given by the kids are hilarious, keeping people from turning the channel.

Of course the moral of the story lies in the company’s simple marketing message to customers, which is “yes, bigger is better” and “doing two things at once is better than just the one,” even small children can tell you this. The campaign has become so successful that AT&T has kept it running longer than planned, and now intends to keep it running indefinitely, in sporadic periods.

The campaign certainly has people talking. It started running in November, and by the week of December 27 to January 2, was the most tweeted brand, with 11,600 mentions. Moral of the story — cute kids sell.

The best marketing campaigns are those that take a risk. No one is going to get excited about an ad or promotion they’ve seen 100 times. To get people’s attention, you must take your strategy to the next level.

However, when it comes to banking or any other website that pertains vital financial information, more steps need to be taken. Always analyze how much data your website contains for each customer and you can come up with a perfect level of authentication needed for each type of transaction. Generally the software used on the back end of transaction platforms can be adjusted or toggled to fit your business’ need.

Systems Security:

Never skimp on the level of security that your website has. Almost every customer has a filter on their web browsers that will notify them of how secure a website is. If a website comes up as totally secure (often as a green link), then customers are more likely to visit (and purchase from) that site.

If the site comes up with a yellow or red level of security on a site, however, that is going to deter many people and potential customers. How confident would you be entering your own information if a site was reported as harmful? Would you even want to click on that site for fear of losing your e-mail and password or credit card information? Always think about that before deciding the level of security that your site has.

Always be trustworthy:

It is important to be truthful to your customers and let them know exactly what is happening with their data. If it is for authentication purposes only to ensure that they are having their identity protected, it’s more likely that their information will be shared with you. If you let them know that their data is being stored on the website or sold to other businesses, though, you are likely to lose that customer or only receive a one-time purchase from them.

Using the right data:

To get the best results in protecting identity, always use data from a credit-reporting agency for the most up to date information. This way, a customer’s most current authentication data will be available so you know you have the right person. All three major credit bureaus offer authentication, so contacting them to use this service is generally a wise way to go.

Stay Educated:

Keeping in constant contact with the security and authentication supplier pertaining to the service that you are receiving is very important. It will let you know if their system is truly meeting your needs and if not, how to utilize it to its full potential. You can also keep up to date on the latest upgrades that will enhance security and keep your customers safe.

After ensuring that you have all the proper procedures in place, you are more likely to have your services used. If a customer has had their identity stolen from one place, they will quickly be looking for another place to go. If you are able to prevent it from happening, then more people will trust you and your site, and your sales will increase steadily—and securely.

How Marketing Professionals Avoid Failure

Marketing Professional Image Would your marketing business change if you knew with 100% certainty that you could not fail?  What if you knew that everything you attempted was guaranteed to succeed?  How would knowing that you could not possibly fail affect your business right now?  If you could do something differently what would it be?  Would you take some different risks then you have in the past?  Think about this for a few moments; what answers come to you?

Now that you have contemplated and pondered what a successful and professional life and business looks like, my next question is; What’s stopping you?

Why aren’t you achieving the results you want?

Have you identified what the obstacles are on your road to success?

Allow me to help you gain some insight into how to become more successful.  All marketing professionals are conditioned to expect a certain amount of success.  Society, your environment and the people whom you interact with have built-into you limits that specify how materially wealthy and successful you will allow yourself to become.

It is only when you push your limits and exceed your own pre-established norms that those limits are replaced and a correction takes place. An example is for you to imagine a thermostat set to 70 degrees. On a hot day, the temperature in your house rises to 71. Sensing the heat, the thermostat kicks in to cool things down. On a cold day, the thermostat comes on to heat your home and when the temperature drops to 69 degrees.

You have been taught that you can only move around within that pre-set and limited area of operation.  I am here to tell you that is simply not how successful people avoid failure and run their lives.

Look back over your life so far and I’ll bet that you have had both high periods of wealth, happiness, business profits, etc. and you’ve also experienced times when it seemed like nothing could possibly go your way. The average between these two extremes is an amazingly flat line, which represents your “comfort zone”. Think about that comfort zone and how faithfully you’ve stuck by it and you’ll realize that you haven’t failed at all. In fact, you’ve been a perfect success! This is great news! You received programming for a given level of success and have done a stellar job of maintaining that level.

The fact that you’ve followed your current course of action successfully proves that you can achieve any level of success you want. That’s right: all of your trials, tribulations, and hardships demonstrate that you can have anything you want. All you have to do is fix the programming and change your definition of success and everything else will change instantly as well.

Changing your definition of success is as easy as 1-2-3:

First, own the fact that you and you alone are responsible for your life, your marketing business, and everything in it. In this context, “responsible” literally means “able to respond”. You alone have the ability to respond to what you want in your life and business.

Second, you must define “success” in as much detail and in as many areas of your life as possible. What does your ideal life and business look like? What does it sound, smell, feel, and taste like? Who, what, where, when, why, and how do you need everything in your life for it to be perfect?

Third, realize that you have succeeded at everything in your life that you have been committed to… which means everything you have actually done, not everything you may have been interested in. If you don’t like your current commitments, change them! You will fulfill these new commitments just as successfully as your old ones.

The moment you stop committing to the success you have and start committing to the success you want is when you will start achieving that sought-after success that you so deeply desire. When you match your interest (the success you want) with your commitment (what you actually do) and then your desired outcome will not only be visible, you will be experiencing it as well.
